Keyboarding Instruction

We are asking staff to continue to teach typing and incorporate it into their curriculum but we will not be using Type to Learn this year as it is not compatible with the Chromebooks.

Instruction Recommendations

3rd grade    

Equivalent of six weeks of daily 15 – 20 minute instruction utilizing listed applications. Students are expected to have, on average, a 75% accuracy rate with 10-12 WPM at the end of training period. Students are encouraged to utilize best practices with any computer work and should be redirected as needed to follow best practices.

4th grade    

Equivalent of four our weeks of daily 15 – 20 minute instruction utilizing listed applications. Students are expected to have, on average, a 80% accuracy rate with 12-15 WPM at the end of training period. Students are encouraged to utilize best practices with any computer work and should be redirected as needed to follow best practices.

5th grade    

Equivalent of three weeks of daily 15 – 20 minute instruction utilizing listed applications. Students are expected to have, on average, a 85% accuracy rate with 15-30 WPM at the end of the training period. Students are encouraged to utilize best practices with any computer work and should be redirected as needed to follow best practices.
 

Good Typing Skills to Reinforce:

  • Fingers on Home Row.

  • Feet Flat on the floor.

  • Sit up straight.

  • Eyes on the computer screen and try not to look at your fingers as you type.


NOTE: At this time key covers are not available for the Chromebooks.
