What is OER?

Open Educational Resources (OER) are materials that can be used for teaching and learning that are online and free to use, edit, and distribute without violating copyright.

Summit Learning Tracks

In order to meet the needs of all Summit participants, we will be providing three different tracks for professional learning during our #GoOpen Summit.

TRACK 1 - Not currently a #GoOpen District, but interested in Open Education Resources (OER) and possibly joining #GoOpen.

TRACK 2 - Brand new #GoOpen District. (Entry points identified or close to identified).

TRACK 3 - #GoOpen District/Ambassador Districts with plans for work and work has started.

Summit Agenda

7:45-8:25 Registration and Networking - Check in with our advance team and begin meeting other district administrators and teachers who are at our #GoOpen Regional Summit looking for connections and ideas for work with OER.  Sign up on our TWITTER BOARD to increase your networking options.  Drop off the FAVORITE CANDY you brought with you at our candy table as your “payment” for registration to the Summit!
8:30-9:30 Opening Session - Join us in the Liberty North High School Auditorium as we welcome all participants.  Speakers include:  Liberty Superintendent Dr. Jeremy Tucker, Department of Education Director of the Office of Educational Technology Joseph South, and #GoOpen Advisor Kristina Peters.  
9:30-9:45

Transition time to Conversation #1

9:45-11:00 Conversation #1 - Several different sessions will be offered according to tracks of learning for #GoOpen participants (SEE Learning Tracks below).  Look for a master schedule on the board in the main hallway outside of the LNHS Auditorium.  
11:00-12:00 Lunch: Team Time and Networking - Delicious box lunches provided by Liberty School District will be available at the cafeteria for all participants.  Please use this time to work with your team or network with other #GoOpen Districts.
12:00-1:15 Conversation #2 - Several different sessions will be offered according to tracks of learning for #GoOpen participants (SEE Learning Tracks below).  Look for a master schedule on the board in the main hallway outside of the LNHS Auditorium.  
1:15- 1:30

1:30- 2:45 Conversation #3 - Several different sessions will be offered according to tracks of learning for #GoOpen participants (SEE Learning Tracks below).  Look for a master schedule on the board in the main hallway outside of the LNHS Auditorium.  
2:45-3:30 Farmer's Market - Meet up in the cafeteria to “shop talk” at the different tables with #GoOpen Districts and participating vendors.  Vendors attending:  Clarity BrightBytes and Amazon Education.

Session Outline

All of our Summit sessions will include:

  • 15 minutes - Introduction and Setting the Stage for the conversation
  • 10-15 minutes - Specific sharing from facilitator
  • 30 minutes - Interactive group discussion
  • 15 minutes - District teams or Job Alike groups to discuss implementation

#GoOpen Summit Goals

  1. District leaders will be able to reliably distinguish between and identify the advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and tradeoffs of open, free, CC licensing.
  2. Define and identify proof points through the Story Engine in order to visualize the variety of #GoOpen entry points and plans.
  3. Become familiar with #GoOpen Welcome Packet and identify the readiness of each district and where they are in the process.
  4. Showcase the work of Ambassador districts.
  5. Develop mentor and peer relationships between districts and state leaders that lead to long term collaboration.

Join Us

Calling all district leaders wanting to learn more about getting started with Open Education Resources (OER) and learning more about becoming a #GoOpen district.

Who should attend?

  • Districts who are curious about making a scalable transition to openly licensed educational resources.
  • Districts who have done some work on making this transition and can offer to facilitate one or more of the workshops throughout the day.
  • District teams of up to 10 people.
